It’s the end of an era. After making us laugh, think and then laugh some more for nearly 17 years, Jon Stewart has officially left The Daily Show. Of course we couldn’t just let this pass by. Throughout his career, Jon Stewart has always stood up for the voices that were unheard, minorities whose point of views are often ignored in mass media. To thank him, we’ve selected these 5 moments on The Daily Show that Muslims in particular really appreciated.
1. In February 2013, some people opposed construction of a new mosque in Tennessee saying that Muslims use “our First Amendment” to build “their mosques”.
Jon Stewart is not a big fan of people using divisive language.
2. When many people demanded that Muslims apologize for the attack on the office of Charlie Hebdo in January, The Daily Show made it clear that the majority of Muslims can’t be held responsible for the acts of a few extremists.
In its own way of course.
3. In June, Jon Stewart was enthusiastically sharing our joy when the Supreme Court ruled against Abercrombie & Fitch in the case where Samantha Elauf got denied a job in the store for wearing a headscarf.
He was so happy!
4. In the same month, a Muslim woman got denied an unopened can of soda on a United Airlines flight because the flight attendant said she might use it as a weapon.
Jon Stewart suggested a few soda can weapon options.
