The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) Grand Mosque, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, combines modern elements with the traditional interpretation of mosques in the desert environment of Saudi Arabia.

The mosque, that is designed by Omrania, is situated in the middle of an area full of skyscrapers in the King Abdullah Financial District and is the spiritual center for its visitors and residents.

The unique geometry of the mosque is inspired by crystalline intersecting plates of a desert rose. It appears as if the building rises up from the earth as an emerging crystal mass. Two minarets accompany the main building.

It’s a 10,000-squere-meter project that accommodates 1466 prayer spaces on two levels.

The Mosque is placed over an urban plaza, which serves as an outdoor prayer extension to the mosque during religious celebrations.

The mosque is a very impressive and creative building. The modern and traditional elements fuse together in ways that were never seen before. If you’re visiting Riyadh, you should definitely not miss out on visiting the KAFD Grand Mosque.
