It’s the moment we’ve all been dreading; Russia has officially declared “war” on Ukraine.
Just a few hours ago, President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” in the east of the country in order to demilitarise their neighbouring country. Just shortly after Russian troops stormed the Crimea border, reports of explosions on the outskirts of the cities of Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, Mariupol, as well as the capital city of Kyiv have confirmed the news we were all hoping would not come true. So far, 40 people have been reported dead.
Long queues have plagued the roads of cities as Ukrainians attempt to flee the area and get to saftey, as predictions have set this to be one of the most destructive wars since WWII if it does continue this way.
World leaders have condemned Putin’s actions, with US President, Joe Biden, and Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, speaking out against the decision.
Speaking of the attack, Biden said the Russian president “has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering”. He also described it as “unprovoked and unjustified” and promised to hold Russia accountable for their actions.
“Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way.
“The world will hold Russia accountable,” he added.

In the early hours of this morning, Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba took to Twitter to describe what was happening throughout the country, saying that Putin had “just launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.”
“Peaceful Ukrainian cities are under strikes. This is a war of aggression. Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now.”

In the latest update he added: “No, this is not a Russian invasion only in the east of Ukraine, but a full-scale attack from multiple directions. No, the Ukrainian defense has not collapsed. Ukrainian army took the fight. Ukraine stands with both feet on the ground & continues to defend itself.”
May God protect the innocent during this incredibly difficult time.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
