Meet the 9-year-old Zymal Umar, founder of a social project called Zee Bags – a project that aims to help underprivileged children and the environment.
Living in the beautiful city of Sargodha, Pakistan, while on a shopping spree with her parents, Zymal was appalled at the sight of plastic bags on the streets. Disappointed and hurt, she was determined to do something to change the current situation of her city. Her attention was caught by a shopkeeper who was giving items in newspaper bags rather than plastic bags. Zymal knew there and then that this was how she could make a difference.
Since then, Zymal has made and sold hundreds of bags in her attempt to save the environment and used the profit to buy things for the children at SOS village – an independent, non-governmental international development organization which has been working to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children.
Since the start of her project, she has been awarded the TIE Youngest Entrepreneurship Award and has received a gold medal from the Federal Secretary of Education in Pakistan. She was also invited to Saudi Arabia to receive Prince Abdul Aziz Award for the Children Pioneer and Ecopreneur Award.
On her page Zee Bags, Zymal continues to advocate to be part of the Zymal environmentally friendly business by making paper bags at home and sharing them with her so that she may sell them, the income of which will be used to help underprivileged kids.
