Turkey is now home to almost two million Syrian refugees who have fled the civil war in Syria. The situation for the refugees is not easy. They are doing everything they can to survive.
Luckily there are still good people left in this world. In Kilis Province, Turkey, at the border of Syria, a Turkish couple decided to donate the savings of their families, that they in their turn had put together for their wedding, to share the celebrations with Syrian refugees.
Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu and Esra Polat, the couple, and Kimse Yok Mu (which translates into “Is Anybody There?”), a Turkish Charity, collaborated and put together a buffet for 4,000 Syrian refugees.
It was the groom’s father, Ali Üzümcüoğlu, who originally had the idea. A video has emerged of the Turkish husband and wife who shared their wedding feast with Syrian refugees serving food in an act of kindness that is receiving a lot of attention in the media. I’m sure that you’ve already heard of this couple on social media.
“I thought that sharing a big delicious dinner with our family and friends was unnecessary, knowing that there are so many people in need living next door. So I came up with this idea and shared it with my son. I’m very happy that he accepted it and they started their new happy journey with such a selfless action,” the the groom’s father said.
“Seeing the happiness in the eyes of the Syrian refugee children is just priceless. We started our journey to happiness with making others happy and that’s a great feeling,” the bride added.
The bride and groom told the media that their friends were so inspired that they are planning to do the same thing on their own wedding day.
