Mark Zuckerberg is reading a book by Muslim historian Ibn Khaldun

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg shared that he is reading The Muqaddimah, a widely popular book by Muslim historian Ibn Khaldun. Zuckerberg’s 2015 New Year’s resolution was to read an important book every two weeks and discuss it with the Facebook community. His book club, A Year of Books, focuses on big ideas that influence society and business.

Ibn Khaldun is one of the founding fathers of modern sociology, historiography and economics. The Muqaddimah is his best known book. Written in 1377, it records an early view of universal history.

According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica, the influential 20th-century British historian Arnold J. Toynbee described “The Muqaddimah” as “a philosophy of history, which is undoubtedly the greatest work of its kind that has ever yet been created by any mind in any time or place.”

Great choice, Zuckerberg.
