Liverpool Football Club has partnered up with Islamic Relief UK and the Liverpool Region Mosque Network to help support vulnerable families around Liverpool.
Together, they hope to distribute 500 essential food packages to the homeless, asylum seekers, refugees and domestic abuse victims. These packs will contain 17 items including, chicken (halal), rice, pasta, eggs, beans, butter and bread – alongside sanitary products such as shampoo, toothpaste, hand wash and shower gel.
Over the past few years, the city has seen a stark rise in poverty and the COVID-19 pandemic has only just made it worse. According to Islamic Relief, there is a total of 31,739 children deemed to be growing up in poverty – with figures still rising. Not only that, but vulnerable families, who were already struggling to feed themselves are continuing to fall on hard times as many are prioritising heating, or paying other bills this winter.

Speaking of the partnership, Chief executive at LFC Foundation, Matt Parish, said “It’s great to have the opportunity to work with Islamic Relief again on providing essential support to those who need it most in our city.
“We are living in challenging times and we know that many local people and families are struggling financially and even paying for the basics is difficult. We hope to be able to alleviate some of the strain in part by providing enough food for families experiencing food poverty this winter.
“By working together, we aim to reach more people in need to make a difference.”
Tufail Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK also added: “We are proud to be working with Liverpool FC Foundation to reach out to some of the most vulnerable in Liverpool.
“This pandemic has devastated families’ lives and many have been struggling financially. With 30,000 children deemed to be growing up in poverty in the city, we must do everything we can to help ease some of the suffering.
“This winter, as so many people will choose between eating and heating due to the increasing cost of living, the work of Liverpool FC Foundation will make a huge difference for many families and we thank the Foundation for their amazing efforts to help those in need.”
We wish both companies will; it sounds like this partnership is going to be extremely beneficial for the area.
