Girls Just Want to Have Fun – By Performing in a Badass Metal Band!

VoB, which stands for ‘Voice of Baceprot’ and means “noisy” in Sundanese, is an Indonesian metal band. The band was formed in 2014 and consists of three teenagers. The members have gained much attention ever since they started making music, because of their choice of music style, in combination with wearing a hijab.

Fridda plays the guitar and sings, Euis Siti plays the drums and Widi the bass. The three girls met at school and shared the love for metal music and became friends. Soon they decided to form the band VoB with the support of their school’s music teacher.

The music they play is not only in Sundanese but also in English. The band has covered some classics from System of A Down, Rage Against the Machine and Metallica. The talented girls also write their own songs. Most of the time the songs they write are about issues concerning youngsters in the Indonesian society such as the state of education.

Although they had to face opposition from some people around them, including some of their family members, they continued to play music. Now, a few years after their debut, the fandom and popularity has grown immensely. They also have been on the national TV in Indonesia. Kurnia told the National Public Radio that she hopes one day they will get the chance to play in England and Paris and, of course, to become more successful.

Kurnia also hopes they “can be the inspiration of younger generations.”
