Dutch football manager and former football player, Clarence Seedorf, has converted to Islam at 45-years-old.
Posting to his official Instagram account, he thanked his wife, Sophia, for bringing him closer to the religion.
“A special thanks to all the nice messages in celebration of me joining the Muslim family,” he said. “I’m very happy and pleased to join the all Brothers and Sisters around the world especially my adorable Sophia who has taught me more in depth the meaning of Islam.”
He then went on to discuss that he won’t be undergoing a name change, writing: “I didn’t change my name and will continue to carry my name as given by my parents, Clarence Seedorf! I’m sending all my love to everyone in the world.”

Upon letting his fans know of his decision, kind messages poured in for the football manager.
“Welcome to Islam brother! This is amazing. As a fan of you and AcMilan I am so happy that we now share the same faith,” wrote one user.
“Welcome brother, welcome legend, ” another added.
French footballer, Patrice Evra, also left a comment under the post, saying “Mashallah bro,” along with a prayer and heart emoji.
Seedorf is considered one of the all-time greats of the game.
In a post dedicated to him by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), he is said to be “the only player to have won the UEFA Champions League with three different teams – Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan.”
He’s had a long and illustrious career in the game, and now he starts a new chapter with his faith, which will hopefully be just as successful.
We’re extremely delighted to welcome Clarence Seedorf to the Ummah and we hope Allah makes his journey peaceful and easy. Ameen.
