Comedian Hasan Minhaj Will Headline the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

The Correspondents’ Dinner is typically hosted by a entertainer, who stirs up some banter by roasting the president and other members in the crowd. The dinner is held every year and aides in honoring journalists and press with scholarships and awards.  American Muslim comedian and Daily Show senior correspondent, Hasan Minhaj, will headline the 2017 White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) dinner.  It’s a very pointed choice because Minhaj has not been silent against Trump’s campaign or his presidency.

In December of 2015, Minhaj has referred to Trump as “White ISIS” in a tweet and repeated the comparison on live television through the the Daily Show, with Trevor Noah.

This year it is said president Donald Trump will not attend the White House Correspondents Association dinner on the 29th of April. Vox reported that Trump and his staff are “boycotting,” given the administration’s quarrelsome rapport with the free press. This year will be the first year that a president will not attend the dinner, since Ronald Regan. Unfortunately, we cannot take Donald Trump’s place because tickets can only be purchased by WHCA members.

The Correspondents’ Dinner’s president, Jeff Mason, told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”, earlier this week that “we will still be celebrating the First Amendment and the importance of a free press, and Hasan brings all of that. He brings comedy chops, but he also brings heart, and I think that we are going to see that at this dinner.”

Though Trump will not be there, but I am sure Minhaj will be an unforgettable entertainer at this years WHCD.
