A Hijabi Miss England? 20-Year-Old Sara Iftekhar Might Make It Happen!

Sara Iftekhar is the first Muslim woman to become a finalist in the Miss England competition. Although she is not the first Muslim woman to enter the contest, she is the first to participate in the finals.

Sara Iftekhar is a 20 years-old law student at the University of Huddersfield. She won the Miss Huddersfield 2018 and Miss Yorkshire Popularity 2018 contest and now, wants to win the Miss England title. If that happens, she will be representing the nation during Miss World, that will take place in China.

Iftekhar is using her platform to support the Miss World charity ‘Beauty with a Purpose’. This is a charity organization that helps underprivileged children, displaced children and people affected by natural disasters in different parts of the world. She started a Go Fund Me page and wrote: “I participated in Miss 2018 in order to show that beauty doesn’t have a definition. Everyone is beautiful in their own ways, regardless of their weight, race, colour or shape.”. Metro UK reported.

About her participation in the finals she wrote on her Instagram page: “Wow, I can’t even comprehend how amazing it felt for my name to be announced as a finalist in the Miss England Finals 2018.”

“It was an incredible experience and something which I will never be able to forget. The opportunities which I have received with being a finalist in Miss England are opportunities which I would never have thought of and will forever be grateful for.” The Instagram account appears to have since been deleted.

Iftekhar has to beat 49 other finalists in order to claim the crown and represent the country at the Miss World contest on December 8.
