One of the most famous people to be identified to Islam is Malcolm X.
Malcolm X, later known as Malik el-Shabazz did not have an easy childhood. Because of this, he ended up in a criminal environment. At the age of 21 he was arrested for larceny among other things. In prison, Malcolm X came in contact with the Nation of Islam. This is where his interest in Islam began.The many conversations with Elijah Muhammed, leader of the Nation of Islam, ensured Malcolm X to convert.
Muhammed Ali, one of the greatest boxers of all time was born as Cassius Clay in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1962, he became acquainted with Malcolm X who was a member of the Nation of Islam. Two years later, Ali was a recognized member of the Nation.
Dante Terrell Smith, better known as Mos Def is an American rapper, actor and devout muslim. Mos Def’s father was a member of the Nation of Islam and later followed Imam Warith Deen Mohammed.
At the age of 13 his father introduced Mos to the principles of Islam. It was only after 6 years, at 19 that Mos Def took his shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith.

Brother Ali says he was always more spiritual than his parents. He had a lot of questions that kept unanswered. Initially he wanted to learn all the different religions and make his own mixture. ‘I learned a little bit about Hindoeïsm, Jewdism, but when I got to Islam I really thought I knew what Islam was.’
