1. Kadija Diawara
Kadija Diawara is a New York based model of Egyptian-Malian descent. She made her runway debut at the New York Fashion Week in February, walking for Chromatand Maki Oh. But Kadija is not only a model, she also graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience. In an interview with NYLONshe said that she eventually wanted to go to med school, but fashion was always something she was interested in.
2. Halima Aden
Halima Aden is probably one of the most known hijab-wearing models out at the moment. The Somali-American model was the first hijab-wearing high-fashion model and the first to sign with IMG models. She has already walked for several runways including Yeezy Season 5, Max Maraand Alberta Ferrettiand has been on magazine covers like Allure, Vogue Arabiaand Glamour.
3. Mariah Idrissi
Mariah Idrissi is a British model, public speaker and online personality of Moroccan-Pakistani descent. She first gained recognition for her appearance in the 2015 H&M“Close the Loop” campaign. As an active humanitarian she also spoke for TEDxTeenin London in 2016. Her talk was called “Changing the Face of Fashion”. Mariah has been featured in magazines like Teen Vogue, Elle, and Marie Claire.
4. Shahira Yusuf
“I ain’t no Kendall Jenner but I’m a black muslim girl from east London that’s about to finesse the modeling industry.” This is what the Somali-British model Shahira tweeted back in November 2017. Ever since she was discovered by Sarah Doukas, who also discovered Kate Moss, Shahira has been featured in Vogue Arabia, Elle, and British Vogue.
5. Taleedah Tamer
Taleedah Tamar is Saudi Arabia’s first Haute Couture model. She recently made her Paris Fashion Week debut and walked for Antonio Grimaldi. Taleedah is 18 years old and has a Saudi father and Italian mother, a former model who worked with Giorgio Armani. Both her parents supported her in pursuing this model career.
6. Ikram Abdi Omar
The Somalian model Ikran Abdi Omar walked for London Modest Fashion Week before her big world debut at the Molly GoddardFW18 show. Ikran was born in Sweden but is now based in Bristol where she joins London’s Booking management, the agency where Halima Aden was first signed to. She also made it into the Dazed 100this year.
7. Adesuwa Aighewi
Adesuwa Aighewi is half Chinese and half Nigerian, raised between America and Nigeria. She has walked for designers such as Alexander Wang Coach, Louis Vuitton, Kenzo, Tommy Hilfiger and many more. She is currently ranked on the Hot List on models.com.
