Waleed Aly won the Gold Logie for Best Personality on Australian TV, and used his acceptance speech to shine a light on the lack of diversity in the media.
“Do not adjust your sets, there’s nothing wrong with the picture. I’m sure there’s an Instagram filter you can use to return things to normal, you’ll be fine. This is happening. It’s true.”
He took the opportunity to tell a story about a man called Mustafa who had to use a pseudonym because he wouldn’t get a job otherwise. “He’s here tonight and it matters to people like him that I’m here.”
